Current Los Angeles FC head coach and former U.S. Men’s National Team boss Robert F. “Bob” Bradley will receive the Walt Chyzowych Lifetime Achievement Award after a successful CONCACAF Champions League run in 2020.

Bradley will officially receive the award on Friday, Jan. 15, at the Walt Chyzowych Fund’s Annual Award Ceremony during the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Digital Convention.

The United Soccer Coaches will be celebrating its 80th anniversary digitally after the original convention, which was set to take place in the Anaheim Convention Center in California, was reimagined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the memory and legacy of Chyzowych as a former U.S. National Team Coach and Director of Coaching during the early years of development of soccer in America will be honored in the same spirit as past years.

Bradley led LAFC to a memorable CONCACAF Champions League run in 2020 that saw them defeat three Liga MX teams – Leon, Cruz Azul, Club America – with comeback victories. The most memorable of the three matches was the blockbuster semifinal against Club America that saw Bradley’s side score three goals in the second half with a man down to win the game 3-1. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles club was one-goal shy of being the first team to win the tournament, losing to Tigres UANL 2-1 in the final. As a result, Bradley will be presented with the award this year and was proud of being recognized.

“It is a great honor to receive this award from the Walt Chyzowych Fund. I believe in the mission of the Fund and United Soccer Coaches Foundation to provide resources to aspiring American Coaches, and I thank Dr. Joe Machnik, Gene Chyzowych Jr, and everyone involved with the Fund for continuing to grow soccer in this country.”
