Atletico are gearing up for their 14th match of the 2020/21 season and their final game of this calendar year. Given that the club will not return to the pitch after this tie until the third of January, the result of Wednesday's home game could set the tone for Los Rojiblancos heading into 2021.

Diego Simeone's side are currently top of the table, boasting 32 points from their opening 13 games. The 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid threatened to derail Atletico's season as they were unbeaten heading into that derby, but Joao Felix and Co. were quick to bounce back, beating Elche and then Real Sociedad in the two games that followed.

Furthermore, the Wanda Metropolitano side have two games in-hand over Los Blancos, who are level on points. Victory over the festive period would strengthen their title bid and put them in the driving seat to win their first Spanish Primera Division title since 2014.

One thing working in their favor is Getafe's form. The visitors boast only four wins this season and have triumphed only once in their last nine league fixtures. Nonetheless, they have picked up four points from their last two games and thus find themselves in the 13th spot in the table.

However, while they are only eight points behind the top six, they are also only two points above the relegation zone, which is more worrisome. Atletico: The hosts will be without Trippier after the Englishman was banned from football until March for breaching betting rules. Furthermore, Joao Felix is a doubt due to a rib injury while Diego Costa is unavailable, having had his Atletico contract terminated via mutual consent. Luis Suarez will be looking to start, as well as Sime Vrsaljko.

Getafe: The visitors will be without Allan Nyom, Damian Suarez, and Erick Cabaco due to suspension. Cucho Hernandez and Mathias Olivera, on the other hand, are back and available for selection.
