Messi has 'surprising' plan for the future

Reporter who interviewed Messi claims Barca icon has 'surprising' plan for the future

December 23, 2020 By Ali M.
The man who sat down for a highly-anticipated interview with Leo claims the Argentine revealed how he intends on finishing his career.

Lionel Messi has sat down for an interview with LaSexta's Jordi Evole, which has not yet been fully released. While fans who are eagerly awaiting to hear what the Barcelona icon had to say are yet to see the full discussion, excerpts of the conversation have been either published or talked about.

Evole spoke to Cadena SER regarding the interview, revealing that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner initially turned down the offer from LaSexta for a sit-down. Things changed after the Catalan giants suffered back-to-back defeats against Cadiz and then Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, with Leo's agent reaching out to Evole to arrange an interview. Having flown out to meet the Argentine, the reporter revealed that they "ended up having a talk rather than an interview".

Furthermore, Jordi stated that the Barcelona legend opened up about his plans for the future. This has been a point of contention, given that the 33-year-old, who will be out of contract this summer, tried – but failed – to force a Camp Nou exit before the season started.

"In the middle of the state of emergency we asked him for the interview," Evole told Cadena SER, as per Marca.

"With judgement and humility he told us that he was nobody to talk about what was happening, but we agreed to talk later. His agent called me after the defeats against Cadiz and Juve and that's when I went.

"He told me about very concrete plans for the future. He told me how he wants to finish [his career] and that surprised me."

The fact that the reporter described Mess's plan as "surprising" has caught everyone's attention. Where could La Pulga end up next season? Cadena SER drilled for an answer, with Evole hinting that his next destination, which will likely be the first and only transfer of his professional career before his inevitable retirement, could be none other than the MLS.

"Put on the TV on Sunday: you aim very well..." Evole said in response when asked if Leo could join Inter Miami.

Many have speculated whether the Argentine icon would team up with Beckham at the Englishman's recently-established MLS side. The prospect of joining the USA top-flight will have Major League Soccer fans excited, but everyone will have to wait until Sunday for the full interview.

Or could he be headed to Man City? "You aim very well" could simply refer to the Blaugrana skipper moving to the MLS. If that is so, then there is a huge chance of him teaming up with Pep Guardiola in the Premier League as it is no secret that the Citizens have a 10-year plan for the diminutive magician that could see him end his career at their sister club New York City FC. All should be revealed come this weekend.
