The Gunners enter this Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with the Citizens in terrible form, failing to win any of their last seven league games. Can Arteta’s side turn things around? Here’s our preview of Arsenal vs Man City.

Preview – Arsenal vs Man City

Arsenal are gearing up for their highly-anticipated Carabao Cup showdown with Man City, a tough fixture that arrives amidst the Gunners' "most challenging" season, in the words of Arteta. This quarter-final showdown comes at the worst time for the north London giants, with Mikel's side struggling to win games as of late.

The north London giants head into this clash on the back of yet another Premier League defeat, their eighth of the season, losing 2-1 at Everton. While Aubameyang and Co. remain in 15th regardless of the defeat, they are only five points above the relegation zone and only two behind 17th-placed Brighton.

Not only are the results getting worse, but so are the performances, with Arsenal struggling to score, create, and defend. As a result, the Gunners are now winless in their last seven Premier League fixtures, a form that has fans worried they will get relegated.

With this is mind, it isn't surprising that fans are calling for the manager to be sacked. Arteta began life at the Emirates Stadium with so much promise but one year on, the north London giants have hit a low they never reached in recent history.

This means that Man City will be licking their lips ahead of this fixture. The Citizens haven't been great this season either, but their form eclipses that of Arsenal. Furthermore, Guardiola's side have enjoyed tremendous success in this competition, winning five of the last seven trophies.

However, it should be noted that the last time Pep faced off with his former assistant, with was Arteta who emerged triumphant, beating the Etihad Stadium side 2-0 in last season's FA Cup semi-final. A spot in the League Cup last-four is at stake. Who will clinch it? Tune in to find out!

Team news

Arsenal: Aubameyang, Arsenal struggling yet deadly captain, will miss out on this game due to the calf injury that kept him out of the 2-1 Everton loss. Thomas Partey is also yet to return from injury while Granit Xhaka is out due to suspension. Gabriel is back while Martinelli, having made his return in the Goodison Park loss, will be hoping for more minutes. The likes of Nelson and Smith Rowe will be vying for a start while fans are eager to see promising youngster Balogun return to the senior setup.

Man City: Guardiola does not have many concerns but will likely rotate his squad. Gabriel Jesus is likely to sit this one out but Sterling will be hopeful of a start. Laporte and Garcia are doubts but the likes of Aguero, Mahrez, Foden, and Mendy will be pushing for starts.
