Both Spurs and the Foxes head into this showdown on the back of midweek defeats, but only one club can return to winning ways. Will Mourinho’s side emerge triumphant or will Vardy and Co. come away with all three points? Here’s our preview of Tottenham vs Leicester.

Preview – Tottenham vs Leicester

Tottenham are back in action in the Premier League on Sunday, resuming their race with Liverpool to win the Premier League title. In the previous round, Spurs took on the daunting task of traveling to Anfield – and lost – but will look to make amends in their upcoming fixture. Unfortunately, it won't be an easy fixture for Mourinho's side as they will be hosting Leicester, another club with title aspirations.

Harry Kane and Co. temporarily trail Klopp's side by six points, but that gap will remain as is unless the north London giants beat the Foxes. The main reason for this is the 2-1 loss they suffered in Merseyside over the midweek as Jose's men conceded a late goal from Roberto Firmino to come away from Anfield with nothing.

Mourinho argued that the better team – his team – lost and while this statement was ridiculed by many, Spurs had the better chances in that exciting showdown. The Special One also refused to admit his side are title challengers but none can deny Tottenham are in the mix for the Premier League crown.

The Lilywhites boast 25 points after 13 league games and could return to second with a win, leapfrogging Everton on 26 points. However, it should be noted that Leicester are only behind Tottenham by a single point, meaning they too could go second with a win.

Brendan Rodgers' side head into this game on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Everton and will thus be keen on returning to winning ways. That result against Ancelotti's team was the Foxes' fourth home defeat of the season but this fixture will be an away tie, with Vardy and Co. performing well on the road this term.

Team news

Tottenham: Gareth Bale is back in the squad. The Welshman missed the last two games due to illness but has recovered. However, Erik Lamela and Japhet Tanganga remained sidelined due to an Achilles and shoulder injury, respectively.

Leicester: Jonny Evans is back from injury while Timothy Castagne has returned for injury, making it a double injury boost for Rodgers' back four. Daniel Amartey could also make a return.

Key stats

  • Leicester have won only once in their last Premier League trips to Tottenham, drawing two and losing the remaining six.

  • Vardy and Co. have won all but one of their last five away league games (L1).

  • The north London giants lost three of their first eight home games under Mourinho but have now suffered only one defeat in their last 11 Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (W7, D3).
