The Gunners have reportedly been overlooked by the highly sought-after playmaker.

Arsenal's pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai is all but over with the Hungarian international set to complete a move elsewhere. According to reports on Tuesday night, the 20-year-old midfielder has decided to join his side's sister club RB Leipzig in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Throughout the summer, many rumours linked Arsenal with the Salzburg midfielder who has caught the eyes of a host of top European clubs since emerging on the scenes in 2019. Having decided against the purchase of the player, the Gunners have struggled to create chances in the Premier League this season and are currently struggling at the bottom half of the competition's table.

The need to fill to playmaking hole has emerged as a result with the club's technical director Edu Gaspar hinting at the prospective arrival of a creative midfielder in January. Nevertheless, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano, that midfielder will not be Dominik Szoboszlai as he is set to join Leipzig in the coming weeks.

As per the report, the 20-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga club after his side reportedly accepted a 22-million-euro bid to sanction his departure. The player, who is said to be on the radar of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, is expected to sign a five-year contract with Die Roten.

Szoboszlai has already registered nine goals and 10 assists for Salzburg so far this season and will be joining Julian Nagelsmann's side who currently sit in the third position in the Bundesliga.
