Borussia Dortmund have fired head coach Lucien Favre after two years of being in charge.

Borussia Dortmund have sacked manager Lucien Favre, according to reports from Germany on Sunday. The decision made by Die BVB comes less than 24 hours after they were condemned to a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the Signal Iduna Park against newly-promoted Stuttgart.

The outcome of the weekend's game added to Dortmund's struggles this season that has seen them register zeros wins in their last three league outings. This leaves them in fifth position on the table with five points seperating them and leaders Bayern Munich. In the grand scheme of things, the club has managed just one win in their last five appearances in all competitions.

According to BILD, the club's hierarchy have been left unimpressed and, as a result, have terminated the contract of Lucien Favre whom they appointed in May 2018 to replace interim boss Peter Stöger. Edin Terzic, the former assistant of Slaven Bilic, will reportedly take charge of Dortmund until the end of the season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been tipped as a favourites to succeed the departing Favre with links to Manchester United cooling in recent months. However, Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio claims that Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Marco Rose will take over permanently in June 2021.
