The Gunners host the Clarets on Sunday in a must-win game for Arteta’s side. Will the north London giants bounce back from their horrendous form? Here’s a preview of Arsenal vs Burnley.

Preview – Arsenal vs Burnley

Arsenal are gearing up for a dreaded Premier League clash with Burnley on Matchday 12, a must-win game for the Gunners amid their horrendous domestic form. The north London giants will welcome the Clarets to the Emirates Stadium knowing another disappointment could see the club slip further down the table, with Mikel Arteta’s men already occupying the 15th spot.

While the English giants recently wrapped up an impeccable Europa League group stage campaign, winning six out of six to become the only team to boast a perfect record in European competitions this season, the same cannot be said about their domestic form. Aubameyang and Co. are winless in their last six games and have triumphed only once in their last seven EPL fixtures.

This leaves them with only 13 points from a possible 33, winning only four while losing six of their opening 11 ties. They are 11 points behind league leaders Tottenham and are eight adrift of a top-four spot, with little to suggest things will turn around. Creativity, or the lack thereof, is the root cause, with the Gunners struggling to break teams down and find the back of the net.

In fact, the north London outfit have scored only twice in their last seven league fixtures, with none of those coming from open play. Pressure is mounting on Arteta, a manager who began the season with promise and optimism. The Spaniard has called for patience as they attempt to rebuild the team but the longer they struggle, the more fans will call for his head.

As for Burnley, they are in a far worse position than their opponent, picking up only six points so far. It will surprise no one that Sean Dyche’s men are in the relegation zone, sitting in 17th alongside West Brom. This fixture could be a good opportunity to grab points should they defend deep, a tactic Arteta is yet to find the solution for. Arsenal have increased their number of crosses per game in a bid to solve this issue but this would fall into the visitors’ hands as the Clarets are comfortable dealing with aerial threats.

Team news

Arsenal: There will be no Thomas Partey for this game, which is a blow given the physicality of the opposition. Nicolas Pepe is completes his suspension and will only be available after the Burnley game. Martinelli recently made his return in an U21 match but this match comes too soon for the Brazilian. Arteta has no other injury concerns elsewhere.

Burnley: Johan Berg Gudmundsson, Dale Stephens, and Jack Cork are all unavailable for the away side due to injury. Phil Bardsley, however, could return, having recovered from a rib injury.
