'El Derbi Madrileño' ended in favor of the all-white part of the Spanish capital with Dani Carvajal scoring a peach of a goal.

Real Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal scored a sensational goal as his side cruised to a remarkable win in Saturday's derby with Atletico Madrid. The Spanish right-back pulled out a top-drawer finish to fire Los Blancos to a 2-0 victory as their cross-town rivals picked up a defeat in the league for the first time in 26 outings.

After sealing progression to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League in mid-week, Real Madrid backed up their display with yet another domineering show. Having shown much promise through a series of chances in the early minutes, it did not take long for Casemiro to reward the hosts with the game's opener. The Brazilian broke the deadlock by rising the highest to meet Toni Kroos' corner-kick in the 15th minute.

It was more or less a one-way traffic from that point onwards as Atletico struggled to create chances and get back into the game even after Diego Simeone resorted to making three substitutions ahead of the second half. The Argentine manager's disappointment will eventually be aggravated with Dani Carvajal bagging a potential Goal of the Season contender to seal the win for Zinedine Zidane's side.

The full-back, found himself on the edge of Atletico's penalty box as Saul Niguez attempted to clear Kroos' free kick and immediately reacted to dispatch a thunderous strike that deflected off Jan Oblak and the post into the net.

The significance of the result cannot be underemphasized as Real Madrid moved to third position on the league log with three points separating them and Atletico Madrid who sit atop the table. Also, the outcome of the night's game meant that the latter have lost a La Liga game for the first time since February 2020, bringing an end to their longest unbeaten run in the competition's history which was initiated after that defeat to Los Blancos 10 months ago. With the period, Simeone's men won 17 of the 26 league games played and drew the remaining nine.
