Olivier Giroud sets new Premier League record as Chelsea beat Leeds United

The Frenchman made history with his goal contribution for the Blues on Saturday.

Olivier Giroud has landed himself in the Premier League's record books after continuing his remarkable goalscoring form for Chelsea in Saturday night's Premier League win over Leeds United. The Frenchman scored the Blues' first goal of the proceeding to become the oldest player to ever score in six consecutive Premier League starts. 

Chelsea were forced to change gears to knick the win after Patrick Bamford got the game's opener for Leeds under just four minutes. The former Chelsea player capitalized on a defensive mistake by Franck Lampard's men to get in-behind the backline and dribble goalkeeper Eduardo Mendy for his eight goal of the season.

Then came Olivier Giroud's moment in the 26th minute. The former Arsenal striker who became the oldest player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick in the demolish of Sevilla in mid-week, got on the end of Reece James' cross to tie the game at one-all ahead of the half-time break.

In effect, he became the oldest player to ever score in six successive Premier League starts at the age of 34 years and 63 days. He also became the first Chelsea player to score in six consecutive Premier League starts for the club since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in October 2001.

After his goal, game was all the for the taking and Chelsea consistently knocked on the door of Leeds before completing their comeback through Kurt Zouma and Christian Pulisic respectively. The night's win fired Frank Lampard's men who have ammased 22 points from 11 outings to the top of the Premier League table with former leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool scheduled to play their Round 11 matches on Sunday.
