Argentina's run in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers had started just as fans wanted, but controversy has struck the team as hard as possible with a baffling decision that saw ref Raphael Claus stealing a goal away from Lionel Messi and the blue and white side.
La Albirroja has taken the lead thanks to a spot-kick by Angel Romero, but a header by Nico González leveled the game before the break. Just when fans believed that Argentina was ready to take the lead, Messi found the back of the net after an impressive group effort. Moments later, referee Raphael Clause decided to goto the VAR monitor to watch the action a bit closer, and after watching the replay, he chose to disallow the goal.
Apparently, Claus decided to disallow the goal after an alleged foul by none other than Nico González, which took place more than 30 seconds before Messi's final strike.
Should Messi's goal have been allowed? Have a look at the replay and make up your mind (Image might be geo-restricted).
