Watch: Harry Kane scores late winner vs West Brom to join Alan Shearer and Sergio Aguero on elite list

November 8, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The English striker snatched the win for his side at the death in Sunday's Premier League encounter.

Harry Kane has made history by inspiring Tottenham Hotspur to a vital win in Sunday's Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion. The 27-year-old English striker scored the game's only goal to land himself a series of milestones while his side momentarily ascended top spot on the table.

It was generally an underwhelming performance by Spurs whose enviable attacking prowess were surprisingly matched by the Baggies' defense. While the encounter was not short of chances, the visitors were barely successful in their bid to break down through the backline of Slaven Bilic's set-up.

The defining moment of the Round 8 tie did not arrive until the 88th-minute when Harry Kane met and redirected Matty Doherty's cross past Sam Johnstone to the dismay of the hosts. Not much ensued from that point onwards although Spurs could have doubled their advantage through their on-loan striker from Benfica Vinicius in the latter part of stoppage time.

With the goal scored on the day, Harry Kane took his overall tally in the Premier League to 150, becoming only the 10th player in the history of the competition to ever do so. In addition, he became the third fastest player after Alan Shearer and Sergio Kun Aguero to reach the tally. The aforementioned attained the milestone after 212 and 217 appearances respectively while the Spurs superstar managed his after 218 outings.

In what was his eighth goal against West Brom, Harry Kane went level with Michael Owen as the Premier League's ninth-highest top goalscorer. He is now the eighth Englishman to reach 150 Premier League goals.
