November 6, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Everton and Manchester United will go head to head at the Goodison Park in the last round of Premier League games before the international break.

Match preview

Manchester United will be determined to notch a win when they travel to Merseyside to take on Everton in Round 8 of the English Premier League. It has been a laborious start for the Red Devils in the new campaign as they are yet to find any consistency in their performances.

Despite having higher ambitions for the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have barely complemented their objectives with deserving performances. The Old Trafford outfit have only managed to pick seven points from a possible 18, and are yet to record a single win at home despite making four league appearances thus far. Away from home, they have proved to be a force to reckon with as both outings against Newcastle United and Brighton produced wins.

United will enter the weekend's clash with the Toffees in 16th position on the league table and off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League in midweek. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's future purportedly on the line, one would expect the men in the red to finally show some ambition with the gap between the top half and the bottom widening with each passing matchday.

For Everton, a revival is of the essence, and a win over Manchester United in the upcoming clash may well present them with the needed boost to compete in the higher echelons of the competition. It has so far been an impressive start for Carlo Ancelotti's new-look side and their presence among the top-five is a clear testament to this.

Up until recently, the Toffees had a perfect record, having won every single one of their first four Premier League matches. In the past three weeks, they have only managed to pick up a point in three league outings, losing to both Southampton and Newcastle in succession after drawing with Liverpool at home.

With Manchester United's struggles refusing to go away, Everton will be hoping to capitalize on the situation and reassert their dominance going forward. A win will take their points haul to 16 and could launch them into the top three provided results from elsewhere go in their favor.

Team news

Everton will be without the service of the suspended Richarlison as he is still suspended. However, they will welcome the return of Lucas Digne who missed the clash with Newcastle while serving a one match ban. There is a further boost in camp with James Rodriguez set to be available following a short stint on the treatment table. Meanwhile both Seamus Coleman and Ben Godfrey will be unavailable through injury.

For Manchester United, Anthony Martial could finally be in contention after serving the last of a three-match ban. Jesse Lingard is yet to regain match fitness while Alex Telles is yet to return after contracting COVID-19. Both Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are still injured.

Predicted starting XI

Everton: Pickford; Coleman, Mina, Keane, Digne; Doucoure, Allan, Gomes; Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin, Iwobi

Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.
