The Bavarians reached a new height with Tuesday's big win in Austria.

Bayern Munich have set a new record for the longest winning run in the history of the UEFA Champions League with Tuesday's triumph over RB Salzburg. The Bavarians run away with a 6-2 scoreline against their Austrian counterparts to extend their winning run in the competition to 14, a feat that, until now, had not been achieved by any club.

Hansi Flick's men started on the wrong foot and were made to fight for a comeback after conceeding Mergim Berisha's opener under just five minutes. Shortly after Robert Lewandowski restored parity by converting a spot-kick before Rasmus Kristensen's own-goal put the visitors in the driving seat ahead of half-time.

Substitute Okugawa scored Salzburg's equalizer within a minute of coming on in the 66th minute but the hosts could not close shop as Jerome Boateng headed home Joshua Kimmich's corner-kick to restore Bayern's lead in the 79th minute. With less than seven minutes to go, Leroy Sane doubled his side's advantage before Robert Lewandowski and Lucas Hernandez put the game out of reach.

With a third successive win in this season's Champions League in the bag, Bayern are a point away from securing a slot in the last 16 for a 13th consecutive season. The Bavarians now have a 14-game winning run that traces its root back to the start of their triumphant campaign last season. 11 of such games have been won under Hansi Flick who has now overseen 43 wins in 47 outings across all competitions since his appointment.
