Both Juventus and Barcelona will be seeking to rebound after poor results in their respective weekend fixtures when they lock horns in a titanic UCL tie on Wednesday, October 28th.

Preview: Juventus vs Barcelona

Both Juventus and Barcelona come into this mammoth tie off the back of some poor results last weekend. The hosts ended up dropping points once again in a surprise draw with minnows Hellas Verona, which means that they've drawn three of their last five matches, including against bottom-ranked Crotone. That leaves them four points behind current league leaders AC Milan, and while it's still very early in the season, dropping points against the likes of Verona and Crotone is not something Bianconeri fans will want to see as it could potentially come back to haunt them as things start to heat up in the latter stages of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, Barcelona's shockingly poor form in La Liga continues as they were beaten 3-1 in El Clasico last weekend. That result sees the Blaugrana actually sitting in the bottom half of the table and on a two game losing streak ahead of their arrival in Turin. Seven points behind league leaders Real Sociedad, Ronald Koeman's men actually sit closer to the relegation zone (18th-placed Huesca has five points) than the top team in the table and are winless in their last three La Liga games. And to make matters worse, the talismanic Lionel Messi continues to misfire in front of goal, with his failure to net in El Clasico extending his barren run to four La Liga games and counting.

Despite this, both the Bianconeri and the Blaugrana, as expected, sit joint top of their quartet after winning their respective group stage openers over Eastern European outfits Dynamo Kiev and Ferencvaros respectively. And as many fans and pundits anticipate, the battle for winner of Group G will be decided over the course of the much anticipated double header featuring the Italian powerhouse and the Spanish giants, making this first leg that much more crucial.

This game will be especially bittersweet for current Juve boss Andrea Pirlo, as his last game in a Bianconeri kit was against Messi and co. in the 2015 Champions League final, during which Juventus were beaten 3-1. So naturally, he will be certainly hoping to get some revenge on the very same players who denied him the opportunity to end his Juventus career by winning a Treble, albeit it will be much easier said than done.

La Vecchia Signora have struggled against the Blaugrana in recent meetings; not only have they failed to win their last three matches, but have also failed to score in those games as well. Given that Cristiano Ronaldo has netted a whopping 15 goals in his past 20 meetings with Barcelona, it goes without saying that Juve will be really hoping he can pass a late COVID-19 test to feature here, but it doesn't look likely.

That being said, Juventus are a formidable opponent on home turf. They've only lost four of their last 42 European home games - although three of those losses have taken place in their ten most recent fixtures. However, Barcelona, despite their strong record against Italian sides, with just two losses in their last 18 fixtures, have never won on the road against Juventus.

Team news: Juventus vs Barcelona

Juventus: For fans hoping to see multi-Ballon d'Or winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi go head-to-head, well, they look set to be out of luck unless if he can pass a very late COVID-19 test just before the game. Additional absentees for La Vecchia Signora include defenders Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro, and Matthijs de Ligt.

Barcelona: Veteran defender Gerard Pique will miss this game due to a ban incurred during his team's 5-1 rout of Ferencvaros on matchday one. Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still out, meaning that Neto will have to fill in for him once again. In addition, Samuel Umtiti still isn't fully match fit, so is not likely to be involved here, while Philippe Coutinho sits out due to a hamstring injury.
