After a hard-fought away UCL win over PSG, Manchester United will take on Chelsea in a titanic tie at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 24th.

Preview: Manchester United vs Chelsea

It's always a much anticipated game when Manchester United and Chelsea lock horns, and this Saturday will certainly be no exception. Both the Red Devils and the Blues have had troublesome starts to the 2020/2021 Premier League campaign, and thus both sides will be eager to get off the mark and start working their way up the table when they square off at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard's men find themselves sitting in eighth spot in the league table, while Ole Gunnar Solskjær's troops sit in 15th - but it's important to recognize that the Red Devils have played one less game than their upcoming visitors.

For the Red Devils, they've alternated between a win and a loss in their last four games, and come into this match having beaten Newcastle 4-1 in their last Premier League game. That was exactly the response they needed following a 6-1 humiliation to Tottenham in their last domestic fixture prior to the international hiatus, and having earned a well-deserved 2-1 win over PSG earlier this week, confidence will be steadily growing in United's camp ahead of this clash.

Manchester United have won all but one of their last six games across all competitions, but what may be of concern is that all of those wins were away from Old Trafford. So far, they've failed to win either of their two home Premier League ties, with their 6-1 heavy defeat (the joint-worst in club history) preceded by a shock 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on matchday one. As such, they will be hoping to pick up their first win on home turf since the current season started last month. That's primarily to avoid matching an undesired result from the 1930/1931 term - when they lost three home games in a row and ended up finishing bottom of the table.

As for Chelsea, the Blues have also had their issues already this season. They were dumped out of the EFL Cup by London rivals Tottenham on spot-kicks, and have failed to win either of their two matches following the international break. A three-all draw with Southampton, during which they were unable to hold on to a lead, was followed by a very frustrating scoreless draw with all-time Europa League winners Sevilla.

That being said, it still meant that Chelsea didn't concede any goals. The team's leaky back-line has been a major source of concern, as was demonstrated during 3-3 draws with West Brom, and more recently Southampton. During the tie with West Brom, Lampard's side had to actually battle back from going 3-0 down in under 30 minutes to salvage a point. Overall, the Blues have won just one of their last five games across all competitions (with four draws), and have struggled for positive results at Old Trafford lately. In fact, Chelsea haven't won at Manchester United's home base since 2013, and will be hoping to avoid losing three Premier League games in a row after being beaten both at home and away last season.

Fortunately for the visitors, new shot-stopper Edouard Mendy has recovered from injury, and having ensured that the Blues kept a clean sheet against Sevilla, will be hoping to help bolster things at the back as Lampard will hope to avoid setting an unwanted record - becoming the first Chelsea manager to lose his first three games against the Red Devils.

Team news: Manchester United vs Chelsea

Manchester United: Anthony Martial is banned for this game following receiving a three match suspension during his team's loss to Spurs, which means that former PSG man Edinson Cavani could get the nod to be involved in some capacity. Eric Bailly is still out at least four weeks; however, skipper Harry Maguire could return to action if he can pass a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard also looks set to miss out as he's not fully recovered from injury. Youngster Mason Greenwood may miss this match as well after failing to make an appearance in Man United's last two games.

Chelsea: As for the visitors, Billy Gilmour remains their only definite absentee. Although veteran defender Thiago Silva suffered a knock in the draw with Sevilla, he should be able to recover in time to feature here.
