The Copa Libertadores has entered do-or-die territory for all teams, as the spots for the knockout stage will be handed out after the end of the week.
Some of the top South American clubs will have to fight for their survival in the last round of group games, and those who have already made it to the next round will have to make the most out of their last game to avoid any surprises.
Here's a brief breakdown of what could happen in each group.
Group A - Defending champions Flamengo have already made it to the next round. One more point for the red and black side will seal their No.1 spot in the group over Independiente del Valle. Colombian side Junior could still snap the second place away from Independiente, but they would have to beat Flamengo and wait for Independiente to lose against Barcelona. The team from Ecuador has been eliminated from the competition.
Group B - Palmeiras and Guaraní are already through to the next round, but Guaraní could still steal the top spot away from the Brazilian side. In order for that to happen, Palmeiras must lose against Tigre and Guaraní will need to beat Bolivar with a score that gives them a better goal difference than the one held by Palmeiras right now.
Group C - This is one of the groups where everything could change. Athletico Paranaense tops the group after five games with ten points, but Bolivian side Jorge Wilstermann could topple them off that spot with a win against Colo-Colo. The Chilean side needs a win here to keep their chances of continental football alive, since there is only one point between them and Wilstermann. The other game of the group will feature Uruguayan giants Peñarol, who could also steal the second place out of Wilstermann's hands in the event of a win.
Group D - LDU Quito and River Plate have already made it to the next round at the expense of Sao Paulo and Binacional. The team from Ecuador needs a point to seal the top spot, since they will be facing River Plate this week. Sao Paulo and Binacional will lock horns to determine which team enters the Copa Sudamericana as a consolation prize.
Group E - Gremio have already secured their place in the next round, and a win against América de Cali would also help fellow Brazilian side Internacional through. The red and white side from Brazil will face Universidad Católica to do their job regardless of what Gremio can do, especially since a heavy loss could eliminate them from the tournament and send the Brazilian side to the Copa Sudamericana.
Group F - Racing and Nacional have sealed their spot in the next round, with only the first place set to be determined. As for their rivals this week, a win or a draw for Estudiantes de Mérida could see them earn the Copa Sudamericana spot, while Peruvian team Alianza de Lima needs to win and wait for Estudiantes' score to see if they will keep playing continental football this semester.
Group G - Santos is already through to the next round, but the real battle will see the rest of the teams battling for the two continental competition spots available. Defensa y Justicia is second with six in this group, but a loss against Santos and a win by either Olimpia or Delfín would send them to the Copa Sudamericana. In the event of a draw in that game, all Defensa y Justicia will need to make it to the next round will be to avoid a heavy loss against the Brazilian titans.
Group H - Argentine giants Boca Juniors are through to the next round as group winners, but they could have quite a lot to do to determine the second place of the group, as they will face Caracas on Matchday 6. A win for the Venezuelan side might not be enough to make it to the next round, as Libertad will be facing last-place Medellin this week, and a massive win for the Paraguayans could be enough to see them through regardless of what happens with Caracas at La Bombonera.
