Los Blaugrana will begin the 2020/2021 Champions League quest by welcoming their Hungarian counterparts who return to the competition after a 25-year absence.

Match preview

Barcelona will begin this season's UEFA Champions League campaign by hosting Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros at Camp Nou on Tuesday. The Catalans will hope to turn over a new page after the 8-2 humiliation they suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich to bow out of the competition last season.

Much has changed since that disappointing spell, with a new manager coming in to take over a new-look set-up. Nevertheless, it has been far from a perfect start for Barca who enter the upcoming clash off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Getafe over the weekend.

Roland Koeman's men have made four appearances this season, winning their first two and picking up a draw and a defeat in successive outings. But as far as their record in the Champions League goes, they should be well placed to get the better of Ferencvaros. So far, the Catalans are unbeaten in their last 36 home matches in the competition, and have successfully reached the knockout stage in each of the previous 16 seasons.

For Ferencvaros, their presence in the group stage of this season's competition is quite remarkable in itself. After winning their 31st Hungarian title and a second in succession last season, the Green Eagles overcame stiff competition in the playoffs to secure a spot among the last 32. Their return after being absent since 1995 was made complete following wins over Djurgarden, Celtic, Dinamo Zagreb and Molde.

Serhiy Rebrov's side have also started well on the domestic front as they remain unbeaten in five outings thus far. They have won four and have drawn one. As to whether that will be enough to upset the odds against Barcelona remains to be seen on Tuesday.

Team news

Barcelona will enter the contest without the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Jordi Alba. Samuel Umtiti should also be out of contention as he recuperates from a knee injury. Ferencvaros, on the other hand, will approach the contest without injury concerns.

Predicted starting XI

Barcelona: Neto; Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Firpo; Busquets, De Jong; Fati, Coutinho, Dembele; Messi

Ferencvaros possible starting lineup: Dibusz; Lovrencsics, Blazic, Botka, Heister; Kharatin, Somalia; Nguen, Siger, Zubkov; Uzuni.
