The Manchester United shot-stopper let his national team down once more after another mistake on his part proved costly in Tuesday's outing.

David De Gea has come under criticism once again following his role in Spain's defeat to Ukraine in Tuesday's UEFA Nations League encounter. The 29-year-old goalie manned the post for La Roja but failed to shut shop to concede what will be the game's eventual winner due to a positional blunder.

Having gone into the match-up as favorites, Spain were made to endure a relatively frustrating night against Andriy Shevchenko's side. It was not due to the lack of trying as Luis Enrique's men bombarded their host with one attacking move after the other, but eventually ended the match-up with eight out of 21 shots being on target and no goal to show for.

In the end, Ukraine goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan - who had conceded nine goals in his last two appearances - emerged as the unlikely hero while his rival at the other end made the headline for all the wrong reasons. With barely 14 minutes of the proceedings left to play, De Gea was made to pay dearly for being a long way out of his zone while the home side orchestrated an attack out of nothing.

Ukraine's skipper Andriy Yarmolenko played a through ball in behind Spain's high line into the feet of Viktor Tyshankov for the Dynamo Kyiv midfielder to finish off after catching De Gea off-guard. Before the ball made its way into La Roja's half, the Manchester United superstar had made himself vulnerable by coming out of the penalty area. Watch the goal below:

Following De Gea's howler Spain pushed ahead for an equalizer but to no avail. The night's result fired Ukraine to their first-ever competitive win over La Roja. Nevertheless, Germany's 3-3 draw with Switzerland on Tuesday safeguarded their status as leaders of Group 4 of League A with the international break concluding.
