Croatia will hope to get some revenge on France and close the gap on the top two sides in their quartet as the two familiar foes lock horns on matchday four of the 2020/2021 UEFA Nations League.

Preview: Croatia vs France

Hosts Croatia come into this match having finally picked up their first win in this competition. The Vatreni successfully battled to a 2-1 win over Sweden last week, which gives them three much needed points ahead of their tough showdown against a French side that have beaten them 4-2 in their last two meetings. In fact, Zlatko Dalic's side have really struggled in recent matches against Les Bleus, as they have drawn just two of their last seven meetings (while losing five times).

Meanwhile, France sit joint top of their quartet. Despite failing to fire in a scoreless draw with fellow group leaders Portugal, Didier Deschamps's men have been in excellent form as of late. They crushed minnows Ukraine 7-1 in a friendly warm-up prior to the showdown with Portugal and are only behind the EURO 2016 winners on goal difference in the table.

Interestingly, the draw with Portugal marked a rare occasion that Les Bleus were able to keep a clean sheet - but given the strength of their attack, any goals conceded tend to be cancelled out quite quickly. That doesn't bode well for Croatia, who have been in terrible form since shocking the world by making it to the 2018 World Cup final. Since then, they performed poorly in their first ever Nations League campaign, finishing bottom of their trio and conceding a whopping ten goals.

The Vatreni, however, did finish top of their EURO 2020 (now 2021) qualifying group, with only one loss to Hungary- but it's important to note they were fortunate to avoid any of the major European heavyweights in their group.

Croatia's wins over Switzerland and Sweden mark their first wins since the start of 2020, but worryingly for the upcoming hosts, the Vatreni have never beaten France since becoming an independent nation. Will they be able to end that negative run, or will Les Bleus deal them a major blow by snatching all three points in this crunch clash?
