The Dutch side will get ready to play in the UEFA Nations League this weekend with a friendly clash against El Tri. Follow this game with our detailed guide.

The FIFA International Break will kick off with an interesting friendly match between the national teams of Mexico and the Netherlands. The Dutch side will host El Tri on Wednesday, October 7, in what will be the second game for the Mexican side in 2020 due to the health crisis the world has endured this year.

The Netherlands will get to this match with a lot of questions, as they will have a new coach on the sidelines. Frank De Boer has taken over for the Dutch side after Ronald Koeman's departure to become Barcelona's new boss, and that fact will see new players getting a chance to impress the new tactician.

De Boer decided to call up most of his finest men, with Virgil Van Dijk and Manchester United signing Donny Van de Beek leading the team. Other top players called up to play for the Dutch side include Luuk de Jong, Ryan Babel, Frenkie de Jong and Barcelona target Memphis Depay. Unfortunately, De Boer was not able to summon everyone he had in mind, which forced him to leave Matthijs de Ligt and Justin Kluivert out of the squad.

As for the Mexican side, coach Gerard Martino was not able to include all the players he wanted to work with due to injuries and due to a negotiation between the Mexican Football Federation and some of its member teams, who refused to loan their players for this European tour. For example, players such as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and Hirving Lozano were not able to join El Tri due to health issues. Instead, Martino will work with players such as Raúl Jiménez, Porto's Jesús Corona, or MLS footballers Alan Pulido and Rodolfo Pizarro.

This clash will also feature the last two coaches for Atlanta United. Gerardo Martino led the MLS side to their first-ever title, while De Boer's term as boss was not as successful as Martino's.

  • The last game between these teams ended in a 3-2 win for Mexico back in November 2014.

  • The Dutch side's last victory against Mexico came during the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a controversial 2-1 win, which is remembered by fans all over the world due to the "No Era Penal" claim by Mexican fans, in reference to Arjen Robben's alleged dive in Mexico's box that led to a game-winning penalty.
