Fans will be treated to the first Klassiker clash of the current season as familiar foes Bayern and Dortmund lock horns in the DFL-Supercup.

Preview: Bayern vs Dortmund

Bayern come into this game in a rather unfamiliar situation: off the back of a loss. Die Roten's long-standing unbeaten streak finally came to an end last weekend, as they shocked in a 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim. That marked the first loss for Hansi Flick's men since December 7, 2019, when they were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Moenchengladbach.

However, Bayern will have to share that off as they seek to win what could be their fifth trophy this season. Die Roten recently earned a well-deserved 2-1 win over Spanish outfit Sevilla to clinch the UEFA Super Cup to add to the Treble they won last campaign.

Like Bayern, Dortmund ended up with a disappointing result last round, slumping to a 2-0 surprise loss to Augsburg. Naturally, this is a huge blow considering how they cruised to victory in the DFB-Pokal against Duisburg and kick-started their Bundesliga campaign with a bang by beating Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-0 on matchday one.

Die Schwarzgelben will be looking to rebound by beating Bayern in the first Klassiker meeting of the current season and successfully defend their DFL-Super Cup title. They will also be eager for revenge on die Roten for beating them in both Bundesliga clashes and will be looking to deny the Bavarian powerhouse from edging one step closer towards becoming only the second European club after Barcelona to win "the Sextuple", or six major trophies in one season.

Team news: Bayern vs Dortmund

Bayern: Unfortunately, new signing Leroy Sane will not be able to feature here, as he's out with a knee injury. In addition, defender Tanguy Nianzou has still not recovered from a thigh problem, while David Alaba is in doubt due to some muscular fatigue.

Dortmund: Meanwhile, the visitors will be missing quite a few players due to injuries. Thorgan Hazard is out with a muscular complaint, and die Schwarzgelben have some major injury issues in defense.  Mateu Morey (thigh), Lukasz Piszczek (back), Marcel Schmelzer (knee), Nico Schulz (calf), and Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee) are all defenders who will be unavaliable to Lucien Favre, which is a major worry considering that his team will have to contain players like Lewandowski and Gnabry. And recently, it has been confirmed that young star Jadon Sancho, as well as goalkeeper Roman Burki will have to sit this one out due to illness.

Match facts: Bayern vs Dortmund

  • Current Bayern boss Flick has only lost three of his 39 competitive matches in charge of die Roten (W35, D1)
  • Dortmund won their sixth Super Cup in 2019, which prevented Bayern from making it a fourth straight victory
