Roma vs Juventus is live in 183 countries on September 27, 2020: here's how to watch it

September 26, 2020 By Michelle Bonsu
After a major disappointment on matchday one, Roma will hope to get back on track as they host reigning champions Juventus for matchday two of the 2020/2021 Serie A season.

Preview: Roma vs Juventus

After a disappointing 3-0 loss to minnows Hellas Verona on opening day, Roma will be looking to get back to winning ways as they welcome reigning champions Juventus to the Stadio Olimpico. Dropping points on opening day was a major blow for Paulo Fonesca's side as they look to try to secure a top four spot at the end of this campaign.

Even more frustrating for the Giallorossi is the fact that they didn't actually lose to the minnows on the pitch, with the game finishing as a scoreless stalemate. Rather, due to some registration issues surrounding new player Amadou Diawara, the capital based club were docked three points and Hellas Verona were handed a 3-0 administrative victory three days after the game had concluded.

Despite this awful start, Roma were able to earn a 3-1 victory over Juventus at the end of last season and have won two of their last three recent clashes with the Bianconeri. However, La Vecchia Signora kicked off their title defense on an excellent note as they strolled to a 3-0 comprehensive win over Sampdoria with young striker Dejan Kulusevski marking his debut with a goal, followed by additions from veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci and star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

Juventus infamously finished last season on a sour note, despite winning the title, and now with new coach and former Bianconeri midfielder Andrea Pirlo in charge, the Turin giants will be looking not only just to make it a tenth straight Scudetto but also to redeem themselves in the Champions League. Last campaign saw them ultimately finish just one point ahead of second-placed Inter, and although they had already clinched a ninth straight Scudetto, it showed that their rivals are rapidly closing the gap.

Team news: Roma vs Juventus

Roma: Nicolo Zainolo, Justin Kluivert, Javier Pastore, and Diego Perotti are all out injured for the visitors, but Edin Dzeko, who has been linked with a move to Juventus at various points during this transfer period will be expected to feature in the starting XI.

Juventus: Matthijs de Ligt is still out as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery, while experienced defender Alex Sandro picked up a muscular injury in training and will also miss this match. In addition, Federico Bernadeschi is still not recovered from a thigh injury, but the team have been given a boost as Paulo Dybala has now recovered from his own thigh injury and could make the bench. This game could also see a spot for Alvaro Morata on bench as he's back in Turin on a one-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid.

Match facts: Roma vs Juventus

  • Roma are unbeaten in their last nine Serie A games (as their recent loss to Hellas Verona was an administratively enforced defeat)
  • They've also won two of their last three Serie A meetings with Juventus, including their most recent meeting last season
  • However, Juventus beat Roma 2-1 in this same fixture last campaign
  • If Roma can win this match, it will be the first time they've managed back to back Serie A wins over La Vecchia Signora since 1995
