MLS released the schedule for the remainder of the regular season leading up to MLS Decision Day 2020 on Nov. 8.

Phase 1 of Major League Soccer’s regular season return culminates on Sunday, Sept. 27, followed by phase 2, which consists of a series of gameweeks through Nov. 8, including Decision day.  

The penultimate weekend will take place from Saturday, Oct. 31, through Sunday, Nov. 1, and will include the following matches: 

  • Univision: Texas Derby between FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo on Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. ET 
  • ABC Sports and ESPN Deportes: Eastern Conference match on Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. ET  
  • TVA Sports: Montreal Impact vs. Orlando City on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET  
  • TSN: Toronto FC vs. Inter Miami on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET and Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps on Nov. 1 at 10 p.m. ET, both 

MLS Decision Day 2020

MLS Decision Day presented by AT&T will feature 13 matches where all 26 teams will play. The seven Eastern conference games will kick off simultaneously at 3:30 p.m. ET before the six Western Conference games kick off simultaneously at 6:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 8.  

The flexible schedule on Decision day will allow broadcast partners to showcase the most important matches to national audiences: 

  • ABC and ESPN Deportes: Select Eastern Conference game at 3:30 p.m. ET 
  • FS1 and FOX Deportes: Select Western Conference game at 6:30 p.m. ET 
  • TSN: NY Red Bulls vs. Toronto FC at 3:30 p.m. ET and Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy at 6:30 p.m. ET 
  • TVA: Montreal Impact vs. DC United at 3:30 p.m. ET 

The three Canadian clubs will continue to have US-based home games as the MLS continues to follow travel protocols: 

  • Montreal Impact: Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. 
  • Toronto FC: Rentschler Field in Hartford, Conn. 
  • Vancouver Whitecaps FC: Providence Park in Portland, Ore. 

Teams will not play the same opponent more than four times during the 2020 regular season, including MLS is Back Tournament group stage games. Major League Soccer will announce details for the two rescheduled matches – Nashville vs. FC Dallas and LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders – at a later date.

Audi MLS Cup Playoff Qualification

The Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will retain its single-elimination format and matches will be hosted by the higher-seeded team. A straight bracket format will be followed through MLS Cup on Dec. 12.  

Eighteen clubs will compete in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs: 10 from the Eastern Conference, 8 from the Western Conference  

Western Conference: Top 8 teams qualify directly to Round 1  

Eastern Conference: Only the top 6 seeds qualify directly to Round 1. Seeds 7-10 will each compete in a play-in match:  

  • No. 7 seed vs. No. 10 seed  
  • No. 8 seed vs. No. 9 seed  
  • Lowest seeded play-in winner advances to play No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference  
  • Highest seeded play-in winner advances to play No. 2 seed in the Western Conference
