Thiago's Liverpool number revealed

Thiago's Liverpool shirt number revealed as the Reds unveil new signing

September 18, 2020 By Ali M.
The Spaniard has completed his move to Anfield, bringing an end to his successful spell with Bayern Munich.

It might have been public knowledge for quite some time that Thiago was headed for Liverpool, but only now is the Spaniard an official Reds player. The Merseyside giants, having completed all the necessary formalities, have announced the signing of the influential midfielder.

The 29-year-old had long been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich, now his former club. Having helped the German giants to their second treble in history, the Spaniard decided that his time in Germany was over and left in search of a new challenge. That new challenge brought him to Anfield.

The Merseyside giants agreed a $32.4M deal for the midfield maestro in a move many are already hailing as the best Premier League signing of the summer. In his first interview for the club, Thiago revealed his reason for joining Liverpool.

"I think it's an amazing feeling. I was waiting for this moment for a long time and I am very, very happy to be here," the 29-year-old told the Reds' official website.

"When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more. I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible.

"It also [has] this kind of family [feeling] that I need because we [like to] have a very close relationship with the club and I think I will feel this, I will have this feeling, with this club as well."

Another thing that was also revealed was Thiago's number. The Champions League winner will don the no.6 jersey at Anfield, a shirt vacated by Dejan Lovren after the Croatian defender's departure.

While Liverpool and their fans are excited over their latest signing, Bayern Munich expressed their utmost gratitude for the playmaker after ending his illustrious spell with the German giants. In his seven seasons at the Allianz Arena, the La Masia graduate lifted a whopping 17 titles, three of which came in his finally season.

The club immediately sent out a touching tribute to the maestro upon finalizing his Liverpool deal. Former team-mates Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba also showed their class, biding their farewells via Twitter.
