Chelsea kick off their 2020/2021 league campaign with an away clash against Brighton. Live Soccer TV's match preview provides team news, match facts, and broadcast listings for Brighton vs Chelsea.

Preview: Brighton vs Chelsea

Brighton managed to successfully escape the drop last season, and the Seagulls will be hoping that new signings such as Liverpool's Adam Lallana will be able to help them improve on their 15th placed-finish from the prior campaign. However, they don't have the best track record when it comes to taking on their first opponent of the season: Chelsea. To date, Brighton have never beaten Chelsea in the Premier League, and to compound matters, have scored just twice during that miserable run.

Still, as the saying goes, seventh time just may be the charm. This will be the seventh Premier League meeting between the two sides, and Chelsea, despite their excelleny historical record against Brighton, will not be taking this match lightly. The Blues have lost two of their last three season openers, which is a stark contrast to their performance between 1999 and 2017, which saw them win or draw all of their first games of the season. That being said, they are beginning their campaign on Monday, which is the third time in recent years - and the last two times this happened, the Blues ended up winning the title.

Obviously, it's way too early to anticipate such things, but the visitors have not been shy in splashing the cash this summer, spending over £200 million on players like German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, as well as Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell and Ajax's Hakim Ziyech. Of the aforementioned four players, only Werner and Havertz look set to feature in this game as unfortunately Ziyech and Chilwell are out with knee and heel problems respectively.

The Blues also secured the services of veteran defender Thiago Silva on a free deal, with the former PSG and AC Milan skipper opting to try his luck in the Premier League. However, as he just joined the team and started training recently, he's not going to make his debut for at least a few weeks.

Both teams, then, will be keen on starting off proceedings on the right foot, especially as each side has sought to bolster their respective squads. Will Brighton finally end their Chelsea hoodoo? Or will the Blues kick off their 2020/2021 Premier League campaign with flourish?

Team news: Brighton vs Chelsea

Brighton: The hosts will be missing Christian Walton and Florian Andone due to ankle and knee injuries respectively; otherwise, manager Graham Potter should have everyone else available for this game.

Chelsea: New signing Hakim Ziyech won't be able to make his debut due to a knee injury, while fellow new acquisition Thiago Silva is unlikely to feature as he only just started training. Additional absentees for the Blues include Mateo Kovacic, who misses this match due to a ban from last season, as well as new defender Ben Chilwell due to a heel problem.

Both Christian Pulisic and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta have seemingly recovered from hamstring injuries they suffered last season, but are still doubtful for this game and if they do feature, will likely come in off the bench.
