The Dutch boss admits having second thoughts on whether Depay's signing with the Blaugrana side will have a positive effect on the Spanish club.

If Barcelona fans remain unconvinced about Memphis Depay's signing with the club, these words by former coach Louis Van Gaal will increase their doubts on a potential deal.

Speaking in an interview with Tutto Mercato, the former Manchester United boss shared his concerns over Depay's deal with the Culé side. The reason? Van Gaal was quite disappointed by Depay's performance while at the Red Devils, even if he pushed hard for his signing when he arrived to the club in 2014.

"There's always a question mark. Depay is an interesting player, especially when he's free to play. Depay has talent, but he's not Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo," the former coach stated.

The Dutch boss admitted that Depay might find it hard to adjust to life in Spain, such as some players of his current generation have experienced in recent years.

"We have to consider adapting to a new culture and a new team. And the first year is always the hardest. Look at Matthijs De Ligt or Frenkie de Jong," LVG added.

Ronald Koeman will follow a similar path as Van Gaal with Depay if the transfer is confirmed, mainly because Koeman has asked for his signing after working with him in the Dutch National Team. Van Gaal's bet on Depay was a fluke, and only time will tell if Koeman's bet pays off...if the deal is confirmed in the next weeks.
