Club legend Javier Zanetti spoke about his compatriot's future amid reports of an interest from the Blaugrana side.

If Barcelona wants to add firepower to their lineup, they will have to settle with their second option.

According to a recent interview by Inter legend and current vice-president Javier Zanetti, striker Lautaro Martínez will stay put at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium despite the alleged interest from Barcelona.

In fact, Zanetti told TyC Sports that Barcelona are yet to approach Inter for their player's services.

"Even as young as he is, he has shown what a great striker he is. In his case, being so young and with such a great future, it is obvious ti see other teams interested in his signing, but right now, we know that Lautaro wants to keep playing in Italy. As of today, there are no negotiations between Inter and Barcelona for a potential transfer," Zanetti stated to TyC Sports.

Zanetti admitted being proud of Martínez prowess, especially since he pushed hard to sign the footballer away from Racing Club a couple of years ago.

"I am happy for the player he is today. Ever since he got here, he realized the kind of club he had joined, and to tell you the truth, when you decide to buy a player as young as he is, with a great present and even a greater future, watching him shine on and off the pitch makes me really happy,"Zanetti added.

Lautaro Martínez had been linked with Barcelona for most of the 2019-20 season, but a buyout clause that allowed los Culés to sign him on a cut-price deal expired before the end of the season. Hence, Martínez seems set to stay with the nerazzurri for a third straight season, and Barça will have to find other options to boost their attacking unit if Luis Suárez ends up leaving the team's discipline.
