Denmark vs England – preview

England are gearing up for their showdown with Denmark in Copenhagen on Tuesday. This tie will be the second UEFA Nations League 2020/21 game for both nations but they head into this fixture on the back of opposing results. The Three Lions are in second spot, behind league leaders Belgium on goal difference alone, having beaten Iceland 1-0 in their opening game.

However, that victory was no walk-in-the-park for Southgate's men. A penalty from Raheem Sterling late on in the game gave the Three Lions all three points but they were fortunate to come away with the win given that Iceland missed a last-minute spot kick. Regardless, England found it difficult to break down their opposition and will thus be hoping for a better display this time around.

As for Denmark, they lost 2-0 to Belgium in the opening game. It was not the most impressive of performances from the Scandinavian nation but against Harry Kane and Co, Kasper Hjulmand's side should enter this tie with belief of pulling off an upset given that they were unlucky in their defeat to the Red Devils. Southgate even admitted this when talking about Tuesday's match.

"It will be a different style of game, Denmark were very good against Belgium, very unlucky to lose the game and pressed with intensity, they've got good quality players with the ball so it will be a different test defensively," the England boss stated.

The Three Lions boss predicts this will be a more open, more exciting game due to Denmark's style of play, adding: "We will come up against good defenders as well but there will be a little bit more space because the way Denmark play.

"Iceland were a very low block, a sensible approach for the way they needed to approach the game. Denmark will come at us a little bit more and there will be some more space for our attacking players."

Team news

Denmark: Fortunately for the home side, they have little to no concerns heading into this game. Andreas Skov Olsen has pulled out of this game but the likes of Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Yussuf Poulsen are all available to start this game.

England: Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood, two promising English players who made their debuts vs Iceland, have been kicked out of the squad for breaking COVID-19 regulations and will thus not be available for selection. Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks have pulled out while Kyle Walker is suspended after picking up a red card against Iceland.
