The Dutch footballer had been linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid previously, but it seems that the Red Devils will beat the Spanish giants to this signing.

With only a medical examination left to make the official announcement, midfielder Donny Van de Beek seems set to join Manchester United after a successful spell at Ajax. Nevertheless, the arrival of the Dutch footballer will prompt the English side to part ways with two footballers in order to keep a healthy financial record.

With up to eight midfielders in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's roster, it seemed quite obvious that the team had to get rid of some of those footballers, and the Norwegian boss has already identified two players that will be surplus to his requirements next season: Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard.

Both players have seen their time on the pitch limited by Solskjaer's choices, and they have already been informed about their situation by the club. Hence, Lingard and Pereira will have to seek for employment elsewhere.

The English international may have an easier time finding a new club, as West Ham have already made inquiries about his services. As for the Brazilian footballer, his future may have him joining a La Liga side, where he has previously played for Valencia and Granada.

Van de Beek's signing is set to be announced in the next few days, as per reports from England and the Netherlands. The Dutch midfielder has even been tipped to have chosen the No. 34 jersey as a tribute to his former teammate and friend Abdelhak Nouri, who suffered a heart attack during a friendly game and woke up from a coma after three years. The deal between Ajax and the Red Devils will reportedly see the English side paying the Dutch club a bit over $65M.
