The Red Devils' academy graduate has committed his future to the club and is ready to make a claim as the first choice goalkeeper.

Manchester United academy graduate and loan-returnee Dean Henderson has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Englishman penned a six-year-deal that will see him earn £120,000-per-week with the Red Devils after impressing on loan.

Henderson spent the last two campaigns with Sheffield United and was instrumental in the Blades securing promotion to feature in the 2019/2020 Premier League season. The shot-stopper topped the feat by starring in post for Chris Wilder's side in their remarkable ninth-place finish in the just ended season.

The United starlet's exploits earned him the privilege to be shortlisted alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jack Grealish, Dean Henderson, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial, Christian Pulisic and Mason Greenwood as the 2019/2020 PFA Young Player of the Year award. He was adjudged the Sheffield United Young Player of the Year 2019–20 after winning the same award in the previous year.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Dean Henderson has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year," a statement by the club read.

With the player coming back to the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a selection dilemma to sort out in the goalkeeping department. The Norwegian's first-choice candidate David De Gea has come under criticism for his sub-par performances in recent years with many individuals affiliated with the club wanting him out.

In scope of this, Henderson has affirmed his desire to mount a strong challenge for the No.1 spot while expressing ecstasy over his return. Speaking to Manchester United's official website, he said: "The goalkeeping department at United is excellent; there are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group.

"The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper.

"I'll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club. Now I am looking forward to joining up with the England squad and then preparing for the season ahead."
