The Bavarians came a step closer to a feat currently owned by the Catalans.

Bayern Munich moved a step closer to matching a Champions League milestone belonging to Barcelona with Wednesday's semi-final win over Olympique Lyon. The Bavarians secured a 3-0 victory over the Ligue 1 outfit to book a date with Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the European competition.

Following an explosive opening 17 minutes dominated by Lyon, Hansi Flick's side turned the tide to open the scoring to Serge Gnabry. The 25-year-old German international then moved to double his side's advantage in the 33rd minute to seal yet another milestone in what has been a productive campaign this season.

After successfully keeping Lyon at bay to rule out any prospective comeback, Robert Lewandowski sealed the win with his 15th Champions League goal of the season. The 31-year-old Polish striker met Joshua Kimmich's 88th minute free-kick with his head for his ninth successive goal in the campaign and his 55th in all competitions.

For Bayern Munich, the 3-0 win over Lyon at the Jose Alvalade stadium meant that they have scored a total of 42 goals in the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League campaign. The tally of the Bavarians is three goals short of Barcelona's record of the 45 goals - the most scored in a single-season of the European cup competition.

Relatively, the upcoming final meeting with debutant Paris Saint-Germain means that the Bundesliga champions have equalled AC Milan's record for the second-most final appearances made by a club in the history of the competition. With 11 outings, both clubs sit behind 13 times winners Real Madrid who have participated 16 times in the finals.
