The Belgian playmaker's strike restored parity in Saturday’s crunch UCL tie.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne successfully landed in the record books once more with his involvement in his side's goal against Lyon on Saturday. The 29-year-old playmaker matched his personal best goalscoring campaign by restoring parity in the night's quarter-final clash.

The Belgian international and his teammates were made to fight on the back foot after conceding the game's opener inside the first 24 minutes. Maxwell Cornet was the man who score for Lyon after curling home a rebound outside the penalty area from Toko Ekambi's initial attempt. The goal could have been overruled but a VAR check confirmed that Kyle Walker had played everyone involved in the build-up onside.

After throwing everything at the French outfit, City finally had their breakthrough in the 69th-minute. The ball was worked on the right side of attack by Raheem Sterling who - after outsing the Lyon defender - laid it on a plate for the night's skipper to fire home.

In essence, De Bruyne took his goal tally in all competitions to 16, matching his haul in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons respectively.
