The first half of the Round of 16 clash was highlighted by two contestable penalty decisions.

The epic Champions League clash between Juventus and Lyon had two questionable refereeing decisions shaping the outcome of the first 45 minutes. Both sides entered the break with a goal apiece after successive penalty calls went in their favor prior to the break.

The first of the two contestable calls arrived in the 12th minute following Rodrigo Bentancur's challenge on  Houssam Aouar. Contrary to the replay which showed that the former made contact with the ball before the Lyon midfielder went to the ground in the box, referee Felix Zwayer signalled to the spot and awarded the spot-kick after consulting VAR. There are suggestions there was a Bernardeschi push which resulted in the visitors' playmaker going down.

Memphis Depay subsequently stepped up to grab the opener with a cool 'Panenka' attempt through the middle. However, little did the Dutchman know that he will be the one responsible for Juventus gettting back into the game.

The former Manchester United winger's ill-fate arrived after a goal-bound free-kick disptached by Miralem Pjanic hit his arm. With the laws surrounding handballs still not properly defined, the referee pointed to the spot and showed the Lyon skipper a yellow card. The ball was then buried home for Juventus by Cristiano Ronaldo.
