Zidane reveals why Bale is out of UCL tie

Zidane comes clean about reasons behind Bale's absence from UCL squad

August 6, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The French boss surprised fans and experts by apparently snubbing Bale from the 24-man squad that will face Man City on Friday.

Real Madrid fans were baffled to see Gareth Bale left out of the squad that will try to revert Los Blancos' 2-1 loss against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, but contrary to what has happened between Bale and Zinedine Zidane since the French boss took over once again as team coach, he came clean about the reasons why he left Bale out of the team that will play at Etihad Stadium tomorrow.

Speaking in today's press conference, Zidane revealed that Bale was the one who asked not to be included in the team that will play this Friday.

"You guys have said a lot of things, but in the end there is a respectful player-coach relationship between us. We had a private talk recently, and all I can tell you is that he preferred not to be called up to play. The rest of the topics discussed in that chat are between me and him," Zidane stated.

The French boss seemed to become a bit tired of having to answer questions about Bale, but he added that Bale's reasons for staying in Madrid are understandable.

"Yes, it was due to personal reasons, but that's all I will say, because it's between me and him. He has not disappointed me in any way. It's the third question about Gareth, and all I can say is that I respect him and every other player dearly, and such talks have to remain within our locker room," Zidane added.

Last, but not least, Zidane referred to Eden Hazard and Marcelo's injuries. The French tactician seemed confident to have both players around for Friday's game, although he did not confirm if any of them would be part of the starting lineup.

"Eden had a few problems when La Liga was about to end, but he is feeling better now and he is full of confidence ahead of this game. Regarding Marcelo, he is 100% ready, like everyone else," Zidane concluded.
