PSG receive massive injury boost ahead of UCL tie

PSG receive massive injury boost ahead of Champions League clash with Atalanta

August 2, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The French outfit have seen their chance of progressing significantly boosted by the latest development.

Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a positive update on the injury front ahead of their upcoming Champions League quarter-final tie with Atalanta. The Ligue 1 outfit are now confident of lining up against their Italian opponents with Kylian Mbappe in the side despite previous news suggesting otherwise.

In last month's Coupe de France final clash with St Etienne, the French youngster suffered a nasty ankle sprain following Loïc Perrin's horror challenge. With PSG clinching the title through Neymar Jr's lone goal, a statement was subsequently released, stating that the forward will be out of action for at least three weeks.

Against Lyon in Friday's Coupe de la Liga clash, Mbappe was present to witness the game and subsequently celebrated with his teammates after the win. With Thomas Tuchel previously stating that the World Cup winner will need a 'miracle' to make an early comeback to play against Atalanta, PSG midfielder Ander Herrera also opined that optimism remains high for the Frenchman's return.

According French news outlets L'Equipe and RMC's report on Sunday, Mbappe is looking to make a swift recovery in the coming days. This was after tests performed revealed that the extent of his injury was less damaging than previously thought.

If all goes according to plan, the former AS Monaco starlet should feature in Paris Saint-Germain's first training session in Portugal on August 8.
