The first half of the French cup was marred by a tense scuffle triggered by a challenge on one of Les Parisiens' poster boys.

A reckless tackle on Kylian Mbappe by Loic Perrin sparked a massive brawl between Paris Saint-Germain and St Etienne players in Friday's Coupe de France finals. The incident, which resulted in the sending off of the culprit saw the injured French star shedding tears as he made way for the bench.

It was business as usual for PSG who returned to competitive football for the first time in more than three month after the French football season was cut short by the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic. To rehash the flying form the club enjoyed prior to the break, Neymar Jr opened the deadlock in the 14th-minute from the rebound of Mbappe's shot on goal.

However, a moment of ill-luck did not permit the World Cup winner from potentially getting on the scoresheet as he became a victim to a horrendous tackle shortly after. Inside the 30th-minute, the former AS Monaco sensation was hacked to the ground while in a foot race with St Etienne skipper Loic Perrin and ended up picking a blow to his ankle.

The incident sparked a scrimmage, featuring players from both sides as well as the bench. A visibly distraught Mbappe exited for the bench and was replaced by Pablo Sarabia. Relatively, Perrin was shown a straight red card for the offense were eight other players - including substitutes - were booked for featuring in the brawl.

In a footage which subsequently emerged, Mbappe rejoined the PSG bench from the dugout while walking on crutches.
