The Red Devils will look to hold onto their hopes of securing Champions League football for next season with a win over the Eagles.

Match preview

Manchester United face a tricky test in the trip to Crystal Palace as they aim to keep their hopes of securing a top-four finish alive. The Red Devils had the opportunity to break into the top-three earlier this week but could not capitalize on it as a late goal by Obafemi denied forced their clash with Southampton to end in a 2-2 draw.

With the stakes becoming higher than ever, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are looking to dust themselves and increase their bid to secure European football next season. The Old Trafford outfit is still in top form and their unbeaten run across all competitions in recent weeks proves to show this.

Before drawing with the Saints in their previous outing, Manchester United were on a five-game winning run. So far, the Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 18 matches, winning 13 and drawing the remaining five games. Their defensive form within the period has also been very impressive as they have conceded just eight goals in their last 18 outings – four of which came in the last three matches.

In contrast to the remarkable run of results enjoyed by Manchester United, Crystal Palace have endured a dreary spell since the resumption of the season. The poor run has resulted in the Eagles occupying the 14th position on the Premier League table despite being on course to compete for a Europa League spot about a month ago.

Roy Hodgson's men have lost five straight league games and have scored just two goals while conceding 13 within the period. Palace enters Thursday's clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa and while there might not be a lot to play for other than professional pride, the London outfit will need to put in one of the best performances of the season against an in-form Manchester United.

Team news

Crystal Palace will face Manchester United without their lead attacker Christian Benteke. The Belgium international will be serving the first of a three-game suspension after being sent off in the 96th minute on the trip to Aston Villa. Defensive pair Gary Cahill and James Tomkins will be amiss because of injuries whereas Ghanaian international Jeffrey Schlupp also remains unavailable for the same reason.

For Manchester United, Mason Greenwood, Luke Shaw, and Brandon Willaims are all doubts after picking up injuries in the draw to Southampton. Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are outrightly ruled out with long-term injuries.

Predicted starting XI

Crystal Palace: Guaita; Ward, Sakho, Dann, Van Aanholt; Milivojevic; Townsend, McCarthy, Kouyate, Zaha; Ayew.

Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Williams; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.
