Watch: Van Dijk and Allison mistakes gift Arsenal two goals vs Liverpool

July 15, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Reds' back men committed two uncharacteristic errors to hand the Gunners the lead.
Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Allison Becker had their sloppiness punished in Wednesday night's clash with Arsenal. The pair emerged as the guilty party after their team was forced to restart the second half from behind despite having scored the opener. In what was an excellent start by the Premier League champions, Sadio Mane ushered the Reds in front in the 20th minute by tapping home a low cross by Andrew Robertson. However, the Senegalese shortly witnessed his opener being cancelled by the Gunners who capitalized on a mistake by Van Dijk. The Netherlands international was forced to concede possession right behind his side's penalty area after being pressured by Arsenal's Reiss Nelson. Alexandre Lacazette immediately took hold of the loose ball and slotted home the equalizer. 12 minutes later, Liverpool's sloppiness was punished once again with Allison Becker being the culprit this time. The Brazilian goalkeeper, received a throw-in from Robertson and in an attempt to return the ball, ended up passing into the path of Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman made no mess of the situation and immediately set Reiss Nelson up for his first Premier League goal for Arsenal.
