The young boy has been brought in for questioning in relation to the incident involving the Crystal Palace attacker.

The West Midlands Police in the UK have arrested a 12-year-old boy in connection to the racial abuse of Crystal Palace's Wilfred Zaha. The unnamed culprit is being investigated for a series of racist messages sent to the investigating racist messages sent to the 27-year-old forward on social media.

Following Crystal Palace's 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, Zaha published a number of abusive messages he had been sent prior to his side's afternoon's trip to Birmingham. The post drew a lot of reactions with both the Eagles and Aston Villa condemning the actions of perpetrators. The Premier League also said that the incident was "completely unacceptable" while Palace headcoach Roy Hodgson also branded it as "cowardly and despicable".

In the aftermath, West Midlands Police tweeted Zaha, saying that they would probe the matter and bring the culprits to book. They issued a statement a few hours later confirming an arrest.

"We were alerted to a series of racist messages sent to a footballer today and after looking into them and conducting checks, we have arrested a boy," read a WM Police tweet.

"The 12-year-old from Solihull has been taken to custody. Thanks to everyone who raised it. Racism won't be tolerated."
