Defeat to Arsenal could spark Kane's Spurs exit

North London Derby: Defeat to Arsenal could spark Tottenham exit for Harry Kane

July 12, 2020 By Ali M.
The Englishman could end up departing north London if his team loses Sunday's derby, according to reports out of Britain.

Tottenham and Arsenal are gearing up to lock horns on Sunday as the North London Derby, one of the most exciting derbies in world football, will take place at a critical point in the season. Bragging rights are up for grabs, and the result of this weekend clash could go a long way in deciding their end-of-season positions, but according to the Sun, those aren't the only two things at stake when Spurs host their bitter rivals.

The British tabloid reports that Sunday's showdown could also have a huge bearing on the future of Harry Kane, the club's talisman striker. They claim a defeat on to Arsenal on home soil could set him on the pathway to a Tottenham exit as the superstar striker has grown frustrated with the club's list of failures.

Claims from the Sun should always be taken with a pinch of salt as the British tabloid tend to be hit or miss in terms of reliability. However, there could be truth in this story as the 26-year-old striker, linked to the likes of Man Utd and Real Madrid over the years, has recently opened up about his desire to win trophies, admitting that he will not stay at the club if the north London giants fail to progress as a club and show ambition.

The arrival of Pochettino at White Hart Lane sparked a revolution at the club, with several young and talented players being introduced into the first team, making Tottenham one of the most exciting teams in England. Despite this, the team failed to achieve silverware, losing the Premier League title to Leicester in 2015-16 and suffering defeat to Liverpool in the 2018/19 Champions League final. Now under the reign of Jose Mourinho, Spurs sit in 10th, trailing 9th-placed Burnley and 8th-placed Arsenal by a single point, 6th-placed Sheffield United by six points, and 5th-placed Man Utd by eight.

Defeat against Aubameyang and Co. is possible given that Mourinho's side have won only twice in their last eight matches in the English top-flight. A loss on Sunday could be the final nail to the coffin for their European hopes, spelling a drastic fall for a club that finished as runners-up in the Champions League only a season back. Even worse, the upcoming North London Derby could spell the end for Harry Kane, the player Tottenham fans hail as one of their own.
