The Bundesliga champions made history and added another trophy to their collection with Saturday's win.

Bayern Munich landed themselves in the history books of German football by defeating Bayer Leverkusen in Saturday's DFB Pokal final. The Bavarians secured an emphatic 4-2 victory at the Olympiastadion to secure their domestic double in grand style.

Hans-Dieter Flick’s men did not waste time in stamping their dominance as it took them 16 minutes to take the lead through David Alaba. Eight minutes later Serge Gnabry doubled the advantage before Robert Lewandowski scored the third in the early stage of the second half.

Sven Bender's consolation goal prevented Manuel Neuer from getting a clean-sheet but Lewandowski struck again to restore the three-goal advantage. The curtains were then drawn on the game after Kai Havert had made the scores 4-2 with the game's final kick from the penalty spot.

With Bayern Munich securing both the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal for the 2019/2020 season, here are some of the notable records and key stats attained as a result of the feat:

  • Bayern Munich is the only German team to win the domestic doubel 13 times.

  • Bayern Munich are the first in German professional team to win 17 successive matches in all competitions. Bayern Leverkusen previously held the record in 1978 with 16 consecutive wins.

  • With his six goals, Robert Lewandowski has scored more goals in the DFB Pokal finals than any other player in the competition's history.

  • Thomas Muller's appearance in Saturday's cup final was his eighth. That is many final appearances made by the competition record holder Franck Ribery.

  • Hans-Dieter Flick is the first German to win the German double (Bundesliga & DFB-Pokal) as a player and manager. Only his predecessor Niko Kovac had achieved the feat before.
