A historic night it was for the club from Naples!

Maurizio Sarri's reunion with Napoli did not go according to plan with his former employers defeating his Juventus side to clinch their first Coppa Italia title in six years. The Partenopei held their nerve to secure a 4-2 win via penalties following a 0-0 scoreline in regulation time.

Despite constantly knocking on the door of the Naples outfit, Juventus' dream of a 14th Coppa Italia title could not materialize. What was arguably the best two chances of the game fell to Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo right on the edge of full time but the pair failed to utilize it properly.

With no winner emerging after 90 minutes, the game was decided via penalty shootouts. Here, Napoli proved flawless in the spot-kick, scoring each one of their four attempts.

Club veteran Arkadiuz Milik scored the deciding goal after Paulo Dybala and Danilo had missed their respective efforts. Aaron Ramsey, Maksimovic, and Politano were the other scorers for the underdogs. The night's feat saw Napoli securing their seventh Coppa America trophy - the club's first in six years.

On the contrary, Juventus also missed out on winning the trophy for the second time in succession. Last season, the Bianconeri were eliminated in the quarter-final by Atalanta.

In an interesting subplot, Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso successfully etched his name in the club's history books with his first trophy after just 17 games. Under former manager Maurizio Sarri, the Partenopei failed to secure a single trophy despite making 147 outings.
