After a 1-1 draw from the first leg, Juventus and AC Milan will battle for a spot in the 2020 Coppa Italia finals on Friday, June 12th.

Preview: Juventus vs AC Milan

After a three month wait without football due the COVID-19 pandemic which has really wreaked havoc on Italy, both Juventus and AC Milan will return to live action in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia on Friday.  The first leg of this tie finished as a one-all draw, but the Bianconeri hold a slight advantage with Cristiano Ronaldo's late penalty proving to be the deciding factor after Milan thought they had secured a narrow lead at the Stadio San Siro. That's because of the away goals rule, meaning that if this upcoming leg finishes scoreless, La Vecchia Signora will book their ticket to the upcoming final.

Juventus, who are top of the table by just one point, are currently locked in a very interesting battle with second-placed Lazio for the Scudetto this season, so the league title is by no means assured for Maurizio Sarri's men. They also are still afloat in the Champions League, which is reportedly set to be re-scheduled to get back underway later this summer. As such, the Turin giants will want to take care of business in the Coppa Italia and ensure that they clinch this trophy on June 17th.

Milan, for their part, have had a very frustrating campaign, but had managed to climb the table into seventh place before the league went on pause in March. A Europa League football spot is not entirely out of reach for the Rossoneri, but they will have to play catch-up with Napoli, who sit three points ahead. Winning the Coppa Italia, then, will make things a lot easier and at least guarantee them European football for next season, regardless of where they finish at the end of this campaign.

However, that will be easier said than done. Even if they manage to beat Juventus in Turin - a tough task in itself - they will have to face either cross-town rivals Inter or Napoli in the final. Both of those sides will also be naturally eager to win this trophy as it represents the only realistic chance of silverware for them this season; for Napoli, it will also guarantee them a Europa League football spot as well.

The last time Milan beat Juventus in Turin was on March 5, 2011, when they earned a narrow 1-0 victory in Serie A. When it comes to success in the Coppa Italia at Juve's home ground for Milan, one has to go back even further in history to June 19, 1985. Given that La Vecchia Signora have won their last seven home matches against the Diavolo across all competitions, coupled with those two aforementioned historical stats, it goes without saying that Milan will be facing a pretty daunting task in the second leg of the 2019/2020 Coppa Italia semi-finals this Friday.

Team news: Juventus vs AC Milan

Juventus: Merih Demiral is a long-term absentee due to a ruptured cruciate ligament, but the most notable missing face looks set to be Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian striker has been struggling with muscular problems since returning to training and is a major doubt for Friday's fixture. Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey has been training separately but it is possible he could be involved in the match - albeit as a sub.

Milan: The visitors, on the other hand have a few players out. First up is veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is reportedly struggling with a calf issue. Even if he manages to shake that off, the 38-year-old Swede won't be able to play anyway as he's banned for this game. In addition, Samu Castillejo and Theo Hernandez are also suspended as well.
