Some began wondering if this was proof Bayern Munich had already struck a deal with Die Werkself for the 20-year-old attacker.

Kai Havertz is the man of the hour in the Bundesliga and given the number of European elites eager to sign him, fans were eager to see what kind of performance he would have against Bayern Munich. His club Leverkusen welcomed the German giants for one of four 09:30 AM ET kick offs but everyone was left disappointed when Die Werkself announced their lineup.

Not only was the 20-year-old sensation absent from the starting eleven, but he was omitted from the squad entirely. Leverkusen’s superstar would not face the defending champions and this raised questions and speculation.

Given that Bayern Munich are one of many clubs interested in Havertz, some began speculating that the Bavarians had secured a deal for the attacker and requested he not be played in Saturday’s early game.

However, this was far from the truth. As Leverkusen confirmed, the attacker was forced to miss this crucial tie due to an injury, having picked up a muscular problem.

While it was quickly refuted that his absence is proof of a deal between Bayern and Leverkusen, the Bundesliga giants are the favorites to sign the German ace. Recent reports suggest that they will beat the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man United to his signature in a deal that could cost $90M.
