The player was shown the exit door as a consequence for his wife's actions earlier this week.

LA Galaxy have released their midfielder Aleksandar Katai. The 29-year-old Serbian international had his contract terminated on Friday after his wife shared "a series of racist and violent social media posts," a statement by the club said.

Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement have been involved in a series of protests in various cities across America following the death of George Floyd - the 46-year-old man who passed away in May after having his neck kneeled on while in police custody. Earlier this week, Tea Katai, the wife of Galaxy's Aleksandar Katai, published a series of posts on Instagram which mocked the activist movement seeking for police reform and racial justice.

In one of the posts that have since been deleted, she referred to protesters as "disgusting cattle" and called on the security personnel to "kill" them. The post subsequently sparked a backlash, with fans of LA Galaxy demanding the release of Aleksandar Katai. At the period of his wife's post, the former Chicago Fire player was involved in a voluntary individual workout session alongside teammates at Dignity Health Sports Park in Southern California while the former was in Chicago.

On Wednesday, LA Galaxy issued a statement condemning Tea Katai's posts. On Friday, the club released a brief statement confirming Aleksandar Katai's release. Earlier in the week, the midfielder also took to Instagram to publish a four-paragraph apology, calling his wife's posts "unacceptable". He added that "these views are not ones that I share and are not tolerated in my family."
