On top of that, La Liga president Javier Tebas revealed when the 2020/21 season will kick off.

The return date for La Liga has finally been revealed! A day after fellow European top-five top-flights Serie A and the Premier League revealed when they will be back, it was announced when the 2019/20 Primera Division season would get back underway.

Confirmation arrived from the government's department for sport (CSD), revealing that the Spanish top-flight will be returning on June 11. Not only that, but things will commence in La Liga with one of its most-heated derbies: the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis.

"At a meeting of the contact group they form alongside the CSD, the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) and La Liga have agreed to the format of the final 11 rounds of fixtures of La Liga and the second division," the CDS statement read.

"The competition will restart on the weekend of June 13 and 14, with the first match being Sevilla's game with Real Betis on Thursday June 11.

"The last round of matches will take place, provisionally and depending on the evolution of the virus, on the weekend of July 18 and 19."

This means football in Spain will be making its return after three months of suspension. Fans eager to see the likes of Messi, Hazard, Koke, and Martin Odegaard back in action will welcome news of the return of La Liga.

Additionally, La Liga president Javier Tebas announced that the 2020/21 season will kick off on September 12. Another interesting report emerged regarding when fans will be allowed back into the stadiums, with Madrid-based Marca claiming to know what is in the works at Los Blancos.

According to the Spanish publication, Real Madrid are planning on letting fans in at the Bernabeu as early as October, with the target attendance set at a third of the stadium's capacity so as to adhere to social distancing. The plan is to fill out the stands by January.
