Germany's top two sides will lock horns today and this tie will see the Bundesliga goalscoring veteran go head-to-head with the BVB wonderkid.

On Tuesday, Germany's top two teams will lock horns in one of Europe's most heated derbies. That fixture is none other than Der Klassiker, the always-exciting clash between Bayern Munich and Dortmund.  This tie could go a long way in deciding the Bundesliga race as the Bavarians boast a four-point lead and are in danger of breaking away from the competition.

In their first encounter back in mid-November, BVB suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat. However, since then, Favre's side have added a certain striker by the name of Erling Braut Haaland to their squad. Since moving to the Signal Iduna Park, the Norwegian teenager has been a hit; scoring left, right, and center. However, the former Salzburg sensation will now go head-to-head with the deadliest striker in both Germany and Europe in the form of Robert Lewandowski. Here's how the two compare.

Who has more goals?

Lewandowski has more goals in the German top-flight this season, which is understandable, given that Haaland only arrived in January. The 31-year-old has 27 goals under his belt while Erling has only 10 in the Bundesliga. When you factor in the Norwegian sensation's tally from the Austrian Bundesliga, his overall goalscoring record this season reaches 26, which is impressive, but still one short of his Bayern counterpart.

Who has the better goalscoring record in 2020?

Due to the winter break, Haaland's Signal Iduna Park arrival coincided with the league's first round in 2020, which was Matchday 18. Erling did not play in the German top-flight prior to 2020, meaning all of his 10 Bundesliga goals came in this calendar year. Lewandowski, on the other hand, scored eight of his 27 strikes in 2020, two less that his Dortmund counterpart.

Up until the 2-0 win over Wolfsburg, Haaland was filthy clinical!

It should be note, however, that the Polish superstar missed two games this year due to a shinbone injury. This means that while Haaland has made 10 Bundesliga appearances in 2020, the Bayern hitman has made only eight. In other words, both the 19-year-old and 31-year-old are averaging a goal per game. However, this analysis does not do the Dortmund wonderkid's form justice.

Unlike Lewandowski who has played 90 minutes in every single of his appearances in 2020, Erling has only completed an entire match in five of his 10 outings (50%). This means the teenager has played 692 minutes so far, averaging a goal approximately every 62 minutes. Meanwhile, the league's top scorer has found the back of the net once every 90 minutes leading up to Der Klassiker.

What about overall goal contribution?

Not only has Haaland outscored his senior both in general and on a per-minute basis, the Norwegian has contributed to more goals than the Polish ace. The former Salzburg star has three assists under his belt, which means he has contributed to 13 goals in the German top-flight in 2020. Lewandowski has set up only one goal in this calendar year – his overall tally in 2019/20 is three – and has thus only contributed to nine goals.

Lewandowski's impeccable record in Der Klassiker

One thing Lewandowski boasts heading into this clash is an impeccable Der Klassiker record -- Haaland, on the other hand, will only be making his debut today. The experienced attacker is the record scorer in this fixture, netting 17 times in history, with 16 of those strikes coming against former side Dortmund. In his last six encounters against BVB, the 31-year-old has found the back of the net a whopping 12 times. Additionally, he has scored at least twice in his last four run-ins with his former employers.

As the Bundesliga's official website put it, today's Der Klassiker will be a showdown between the grandmaster and teen prodigy. Do not miss what should be a thrilling battle!
