EPL trio ready to fight for Kai Havertz

Premier League trio ready to challenge Bayern in race to sign Bundesliga sensation Kai Havertz

May 20, 2020 By Ali M.
The Leverkusen sensation is highly sought-after and could be in for a Premier League move, according to reports.

Given the Bundesliga's triumphant return over the weekend, football fans were once again able to witness the talent that is Kai Havertz. The German sensation put in another scintillating display, guiding Leverkusen to a 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen, and as a result, fresh transfer rumors have surfaced regarding the 20-year-old.

According to the Sun, three Premier League giants are ready to do battle with Bayern Munich for his signature and they are Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man United. Their interest comes as little surprise as they are some of the few clubs that can afford the hefty price tag hanging over the Bundesliga ace's head.

Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of Havert and is aware that should his side fail to make a considerable offer in the upcoming window, they could miss out on one of the most promising German talents in recent years. The Reds are an attractive option, being one of – if not the – best clubs in the world. Furthermore, the manager is of German nationality and is tremendously familiar with the Bundesliga, having coached Dortmund and having brought the likes of Firmino, Matip, and Keita from there to the English top-flight.

Chelsea have an advantage as their spending power looks to be affected far less by the coronavirus pandemic. Having sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid last summer in a deal reportedly worth up to £130M, the Blues were not able to spend that fee due to a transfer ban but are free to splash that cash come this summer.

As for the Red Devils, their Havertz plan heavily depends on Pogba's situation. Should the Frenchman bring an end to his time at Old Trafford, then the Leverkusen star is the man Solskjaer and Co. could turn to as the World Cup winner's replacement.

It is widely believed that while the German ace has several suitors, Bayern Munich are the favorites to land him. The Sun refute this notion, writing that an Allianz Arena switch is not certain and that the odds of him trading the Bundesliga for the Premier League are just as likely. The attacker is valued at around £100M, which translates to $123M. Whether any club can afford that amid the financial crisis COVID-19 has brought remains unknown but with the player being under contract until only 2022, Leverkusen appear willing to cash in on him this summer while his price is at its highest.
