The two Spanish giants have reportedly joined in the pursuit for the winger's signature this summer.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have entered a race with Bayern Munich for the signing of Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, a report by SportBild has revealed. The two La Liga clubs are said to have offered contracts to the 24-year-old German international in a bid to persuade him to leave the Etihad while turning down a move to Munich.

Sane has long been a transfer target for Bayern and many believe that it is only a matter of time before the former Schalke sensation seals a move back to the Bundesliga. Having initiated talks to secure his service from City last summer, an unfortunate injury force the Bavarians the pull the plug on a rumored deal which was believed to be close. Since then, the attacker has been on a long road to recovery.

Should football return after the coronavirus pandemic, Sane is expected to return to Man City's first team and speculations of Bayern Munich exhibiting interest in his service have already been reignited. According to German news outlet SportBild, the German club's chief Hasan Salihamidzic has already held transfer talks with the player's new representatives LIAN Sports.

However, while the Bundesliga outfit is eyeing a move in the upcoming summer transfer window, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are pumped to offer them a strict competition. Despite bolstering their respective attacking ranks with the arrivals of Antoine Griezmann and Eden Hazard, the two sides have still struggled to get the best out of their star men. As a result, there is the need for reinforcement and Sane could well suit the profile of forward both clubs are eager to acquire.
